With the shortest coastline of any mainland coastal state, you might think New Hampshire doesn't have much to offer in the way of coastal beaches.  A more mistaken assumption you could not make.  The southern coastline of New Hampshire is home to several miles of sandy beaches including Hampton Beach, one of New England's hottest coastal beaches.

Just one-and-a-half miles north of the Massachusetts border, Hampton Beach begins at the entrance to the Hampton Beach State Park where you can camp in your RV, have a cookout, swim in the ocean or fish off the jetties.  Within walking distance there are several businesses offering day cruises, fishing and water-sport rentals as well as many wonderful restaurants, pubs, shops and arcades.  If you’re looking to keep the young ones entertained, you will find a large, fenced-in playground area right off the beach with enough swings, jungle gyms and playground equipment to keep any child happy for hours.

In the center of the excitement that is Hampton Beach sits the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.  Deceptively named, it is neither a gambling casino nor a place in which to ballroom dance.  For over a hundred years the Casino Ballroom has been the venue for some of the hottest entertainment acts to hit the stage, from rockers Janis Joplin and The Who to comedians George Carlin and Bob Saget.  During the summer months, there's always something happening at the Casino Ballroom.

Directly across the boulevard from the Casino Ballroom is the open-air Sea Shell Stage where live performances take place nearly every summer day.  These performances are always free and open to the public.  Sometimes an individual, sometimes a group, always entertaining, the Sea Shell Stage is a regular focal point of Hampton Beach activities.

Continuing north on Hampton Beach's bustling, people-filled street you will find countless motels and small shops on your left and waves lapping at sandy beaches on your right.  Dividing the two is the Route 1A boulevard and plenty of space for parking.  A half-mile north of Hampton Beach Center, the sandy beach starts slowly turning into rocky beach with barnacles and seaweed clinging to the rocky outcrops.  These outcrops form a small peninsula known as Boar's Head where several rental homes and cottages are located.  The view from their windows overlooking the ocean as it crashes against the rocks below is simply unforgettable.  Further north of Boar's Head, the beach again becomes sand for several more miles of scenic coastal beauty.
