The Milford, New Hampshire School District, SAU #40, maintains grades one through twelve and includes a preschool program as well as a kindergarten.  The Jacques Memorial and Heron Pond Elementary Schools facilitate preschool and kindergarten through grades five.  The Milford Middle School provides for grades six through eight and the award-winning Milford High School educates students in grades nine through twelve.  The Milford School district offers many extracurricular activities for its students as well as several youth athletic groups.

Milford School System District Highlights

The Milford School District provides a high quality, personalized education to all of its 2,600 students within its pre-school through grade twelve educational structure. Due to a strong emphasis on curriculum implementation and assessment, professional development, and quality instruction, Milford students have demonstrated continuous progress on the NHEIAP. Each grade level that is assessed scored at or above the New
Hampshire state average. Tenth graders have experienced a thirteen point increase the past two years in mathematics.

Significant efforts and resources are dedicated to curriculum improvement. The District utilizes the Everyday Mathematics program in its elementary levels and annually reviews and updates identified curriculum areas. This year, reading instruction practices are being reviewed and a foundation document entitled Reading for All has been developed. Teachers and administrators are focusing on providing a balanced literacy program to meet the learning needs of its population. The Milford School District offers a comprehensive educational program to its students. Its 950 student high school includes an Applied Technology Center that is fully integrated into the school's mainstream. Courses such as Biotechnology, Building and Trades, and Engineering are conscientiously blended with Advanced Placement and Honors courses. Milford High School completed its NEASC reaccreditation in 2004-2005 with significant commendations. A full interscholastic athletic program is offered to its student body along with award winning programs such as We The People and Mock Trial. In 2004-2005 the high school was the recipient of the state's Sportsmanship Award.

The Milford Middle School offers programming geared to the needs of early adolescents through advisory activities and teamed instruction. After-school activities, including enrichment and supervised clubs, are available to students. Elementary students attend the Jacques Elementary School which services pre-school, Readiness, and first grade children, while intermediate elementary children attend the Heron Pond School. The District supports the SAGE School, an alternative middle/high school for students who require a smaller setting.

Major District initiatives in 2005-2006 include the addition of ten classrooms to the Heron Pond Elementary School, providing a systemic approach to reading instruction, and expanding parking at the high school.
