Introduction to Pelham, New Hampshire

Tucked in the pine woods of southeast Hillsborough, Pelham, New Hampshire is a quiet rural town with a strong economic base.  With most of its commercial and industrial businesses located on Route 38, Pelham has managed to keep the town center looking the same as it did nearly two-hundred years ago.  A sense of local pride permeates this community of 13,000 people and with a solid plan for continued business growth as well as the expected influx of new residents Pelham's dignified air should march on for years to come.

Once a part of Old Dunstable, Massachusetts, Pelham broke from the Massachusetts town when the NH/Mass border was changed in 1741.  Five years later, the town was incorporated and named Pelham by colonial governor Benning Wentworth.  Wentworth often named southern New Hampshire towns for relatives and friends and Henry Pelham, Prime Minister of the U.K. at the time, was only one of many Wentworth relatives with a New Hampshire town namesake.  Primarily a farming community until after the Second World War, Pelham still maintains the quaint country charm that towns in New Hampshire are well known for.

With Massachusetts bordering to the south and Nashua only minutes to the west, Pelham is convenient to anywhere.  Two major highways lie only ten minutes to either side of this historic town making long-distance trips all the closer.  Boston is a mere forty-minute drive to the south and Manchester, New Hampshire is about twenty minutes to the north.  Outdoor activities abound in the immediate area of Pelham, including skiing (downhill and cross-country), hiking, bicycling, fishing, swimming, camping, tennis, golf and snowmobiling.  If you'd prefer the indoors, there are several malls close by, bowling, cinemas and many antique shops.  There are countless organizations to join in Pelham, both for adults and for children.  For the kids, there is Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts along with several organized youth athletics such as baseball, basketball and soccer.  Adults can join the Lions Club, the nights of Columbus, the Masons and many, many more.  There's no excuse for boredom in beautiful Pelham, New Hampshire.
