History of Rindge

The land that was to become Rindge, NH was first granted in 1736 to soldiers from Rowley, Massachusetts who returned from the war with Canada. The first inhabitants called the town "Rowley-Canada" until 1749 when governor Benning Wentworth renamed the town "Monadnock Number One".  The town was referred to as "South Monadnock" by the locals until, in 1768, the town was incorporated and renamed in honor of Captain Daniel Rindge, one of the original grant holders.  Rindge was a slow-growing farming community that took over 180 years to double its population from 1,100 residents in 1790 to 2,200 residents in 1970.  However, it took only 20 years to more than double again and continues to grow to this day, as more and more people realize the attraction of buying a home in southern NH.

Straddled between two large lakes to the north and south and two large ponds to the easy and west, Rindge, NH is a sportsman's paradise.  Fishing, boating, hunting, hiking and camping are all available in Rindge, as are tennis facilities, swimming and bicycling.  Keene, New Hampshire is only 20 minutes away, Manchester about forty-five and Boston just a bit over an hour.  Rindge offers youth groups for children including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and youth sports such as baseball and basketball.
